Title: The Book of Time, by Guillaume Prevost, Scholastic Inc., New York , First edition 2006,

Genre: Young adults fiction, Ages 12-14

Characters: Sam Faulkner, Allan Faulkner, Lily, Aunt Evelyn, Sam's Grandma.

Plot: Sam Faulkner is a boy who loves karate and has a tournament coming up in a couple of weeks, while he is battling to find his father. His father Allan Faulkner has been missing for ten days, and Sam’s family is really worried about him.

One day Sam went to the book store, where he and his dad live. He went there to see if his dad had stopped by, but unfortunately he didn’t. He was looking around and found a hidden door that led to a hidden place, a place of mystery and desire. He opens the door and sees a stone statue. There was a coin beside it so Sam put the coin in the slot of the statue, which looked like a big sun. He feels a burning feeling after he puts the coin in. Sam has just gone back in time.

He came to realize by his second trip back in time, that if someone is always thinking about him and that he has a coin, he could get back home no matter where he is. That theory that he came up with became correct and thought that maybe he could find his dad somewhere in Vlad Eyck’s time.

Later on in the story, toward the end, Sam looks into one of Vlad Eyck’s books that Lily gave to him. In that book there was a cell or some kind of prison. It had writing on it and at that moment that Sam saw the writing on the wall, he knew that his dad was in trouble and needed his help. If you want to know what was written on the wall you should read this book.

Touchy Areas: Sam is a misunderstood boy and gets bullied a lot. He is in karate and he likes this girl named Alicia and he wishes that he can see her. To his surprise he sees her at the tournament and she has a boyfriend, who is in the tournament, and is going to fight him.

Evaluating: The Book of Time is a good book with  big pages and letters. It is an easy read so anyone between tweens and teens will enjoy the excitement and adventure of this book. If you love fiction, action books this is your book. This book is not only about Sam but the rough time he is going through with his dad. Anyone that has been adopted or has divorced parents will relate to what Sam is going through. I enjoyed this book so much . It made me think more of what you do to find something and the effort you put into finding it. I will give this book an 8 out of 10.
