By the year 2000 will all children in Georgia "start school ready to learn?" In a two-year study we examined the effect of enrollment in Pre-K on students’ standardized test scores, attitudes, and readiness for school. Sixty first-grade and 59 Kindergarten students were randomly selected. We found that children with Pre-K experience excelled on tests given at the beginning of Kindergarten. Results are discussed in relation to students’ progress, interaction with peers, and the impact of Pre-K on teaching strategies. Results were statistically significant at the .05 level.

Recommendations for future research are suggested.
